Deborah Brady | Hal Leonard Deborah Brady Music educator and composer Deborah Brady began her career while still an undergraduate, teaching keyboard theory courses at Shorter College. During the same period, she also taught private piano and guitar. Nationally certified by the American College of Musicians, Ms. Brady currently operates a thriving private studio and composes educational music. Some of her compositions appear in the NFMC 2008-2010 Festivals Bulletin. Before turning to full-time teaching and composing, Ms. Brady juggled roles as music director, performer, writer, arranger, vocalist and co-owner of an Atlanta-area recording studio with her husband, Tom. As a soloist, she has performed extensively throughout the southeast and has appeared on numerous regional television and radio programs. Ms. Brady holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Shorter College, where she studied with Mr. William Knight. She completed her Masters and Doctoral programs by extension from Victory Institute. Her professional affiliations include: BMI, Music Teachers National Association, National Guild of Piano Teachers, National Federation of Music Clubs, Georgia Music Teachers Association, and the Gwinnett County Music Teachers Association. Don Wyrtzen | Hal Leonard Don Wyrtzen Don Wyrtzen received an early start in music, radio and television while associated with his father, Dr. Jack Wyrtzen, founder of Word of Life International. As a graduate of The Moody Bible Institute, The King's College and Dallas Theological Seminary, he did graduate work in music at the University of North Texas. He has received several awards honoring him for his excellence in Christian ministry and music. Don has either arranged or composed over 400 anthems and sacred songs, many of which are now in standard church hymnals. In 1981 he received a Dove Award from the Gospel Music Association for the musical The Love Story. Don has also arranged, orchestrated and conducted for such major artists as Steven Curtis Chapman, 4-Him, Michael Card, Steve Green, Sandi Patty, The Gaither Vocal Band, First Call and Andy Williams. In the last few years he has become recognized as one of the leading musicians and statesmen in Christian music. He lectures on church music, worship and hymnology at many of the leading Christian colleges, universities and seminaries and is a widely sought speaker. Don and his wife, Karen, reside in Brentwood, Tennessee, where he is president of Don Wyrtzen Music Ministries. They have two grown children, a son, D.J. and a daughter, Kathleen.

John Behnke | Hal Leonard John Behnke John Behnke is a frequent organ recitalist, handbell clinician and festival director. He enjoys composing and arranging having nearly 450 handbell, choral and organ compositions in print with numerous publishers in the United States, Germany and Taiwan. Previously John served 13 years as Music Editor for AGEHR Music - Handbell Musicians of America, 13 years as the director of the Milwaukee Handbell Ensemble and 29 years as Organist and Choir Director at Historic Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in downtown Milwaukee, WI. He is Emeritus Professor of Music at Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin where he taught organ, graduate handbell courses, and directed The Alleluia Ringers, Concordia's touring handbell choir for 29 years from 1986 until August of 2015. He was honored in December of 1993 being named "MVP" Most Valuable Player in the Milwaukee area by Milwaukee Sentinel music critic, Nancy Raabe. He has also received an ASCAP Composers Award every year since 1998. A 1974 graduate of Concordia-River Forest, IL. he received his M. Mus. in Church Music and Organ from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. in 1978. His D. Mus. was awarded to him in 1984 by Northwestern University where he was elected into the Alpha Chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda, a National Honorary Music Society. From August 1978 to July 1979 Dr. Behnke studied at the Westphalian Church Music Institute in Herford, W. Germany, where he passed the "A" Exam in Organ with the grade of "1-Excellent".

Hal Leonard Vocal Competition - 2013 Winners | Hal Leonard THE 2013 HAL LEONARD VOCAL COMPETITION WINNERS Hal Leonard, the world's largest print music publisher and the world leader in vocal music, launched the exciting and innovative concept of a serious music competition for voice students comprised entirely of YouTube video entries. We believe this to be the first legitimate music competition for musicians of various ages, children through college, to be held entirely on the Internet. The required repertoire was largely drawn from art song and musical theatre literature. The deadline for entry was February 1, 2014. Judging has been concluded, and we are pleased to announce the art song and musical theatre results in the four age categories of competition. Congratulations to the prize winners! We were encouraged by the commitment and seriousness of purpose shown in the video entries. If these are a representative sampling, there are clearly many dedicated students and teachers at all levels who have embraced our heritage of music literature. We thank all those who entered for confirming that this experimental venture was more than worthwhile. And we also thank the teachers and parents who guided the voice students in this competition. William Tortolano | Hal Leonard William Tortolano Dr. William Tortolano is a distinguished Catholic church musician who has made considerable contributions in the field of Gregorian chant. His studies and research at the Abbey of Saint Peter (Solesmes, France) have led to his translation of Dom Eugène Cardine's book, Basic Studies in Gregorian Chant. He currently directs the Gregorian Chant Workshop at the Saint Michael Institute of Sacred Art on Enders Island in Connecticut. Dr. Tortolano is Professor Emeritus of Music and Fine Arts at Saint Michael's College, Vermont. He has earned degrees in music and sacred music from Boston University, New England Conservatory of Music, L'Université de Montréal, and has enjoyed fellowships at Tanglewood Music Center, Yale University, and King's and Trinity Colleges at Cambridge University, England. Dr. Tortolano serves as college organist at Saint Michael's College, and has presented organ recitals in the United States, Canada, Holland, Italy, Scotland and France, including at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The author of the book, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor: Anglo-Black Composer, 1875-1912, he is also a composer published by Shawnee Press and other major publishers. Publications by William Tortolano

Luigi Zaninelli | Hal Leonard Luigi Zaninelli The music of Luigi Zaninelli (b. 1932) is known to performers and audiences around the world for work that excites the senses and stimulates the mind. Following high school, he was brought to the Curtis Institute of Music by Gian-Carlo Menotti. At age 19, he was sent to Italy by the Curtis Institute to study composition with the legendary Rosario Scalero (the teacher of Samuel Barber and Menotti). Upon graduation, he was appointed to the faculty of the Curtis Institute. In 1958, Zaninelli began his long relationship with Shawnee Press as composer/arranger/pianist/conductor. In 1964, he returned to Rome, Italy to compose film music for RCA Italiana. During that period, he became conductor/arranger for Metropolitan Opera soprano Anna Moffo. During his career, he has served as composer-in-residence at the University of Calgary and the Banff School of Fine Arts. Since 1973, he has been the composer-in-residence at the University of Southern Mississippi. Among his numerous honors are a Steinway Prize; ASCAP Awards; and Outstanding Achievement Award, Province of Alberta. In 1991, he became the first four-time winner of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Music Award. With more than 300 published works to his credit, Zaninelli has been commissioned to compose for all mediums including opera, ballet, chamber music, orchestra, band, chorus and solo songs. He has also composed several movie and television scores, including the PBS documentaries: The Islander, Passover, and The Last Confederates. Luigi Zaninelli's music is known both under his name and his pseudonym, Lou Hayward. Writing as Lou Hayward, he brings a unique, sophisticated style to popular music.
